‘İçerisi’ ile ‘dışarısı’nın diyalektiğinde bir kimlik tasavvuru: “Huzur Sokağı”

Abstract

Şule Yüksel Şenler’in 1970’li yıllarla birlikte başlayan ve İslami duyarlılığı merkeze alan roman yazımının öncü metinlerinden kabul edilen Huzur Sokağı adlı romanı, Türkiye’nin hızlı modernleşme paradigması içerisinde, dışarıda bırakılan kimlikler karşısında teklif edilen İslami kimlik tasavvurunun edebî temsilinde önemli bir yerde durmaktadır. Bu çalışma da Huzur Sokağı romanında kurgulanan “içerisi” ile “dışarısı” arasındaki diyalektik ilişkinin bir kimlik inşası bağlamında mekân, cemiyet ve zihniyet eksenlerinde hangi temsiller aracılığıyla ve nasıl kurulduğunu, bu zıtlıkların birbirini nasıl aşmaya çalıştığını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın diyalektik düşünme biçimi üzerinden yapılmasının nedeni, diyalektik eleştirel düşüncenin sorunlara birden fazla perspektiften bakma ve görünüşte çelişkili olan durumların hem çelişkilerini kavrama hem de onları aşmayı hedeflemeye uygun bir özgürleştirici düşünme biçimi sunmasıdır. Bu bağlamda Hegel’in diyalektik yaklaşımı, çalışmaya elverişli bir kavramsal çerçeve oluşturmaktadır. Şule Yüksel Şenler’in Huzur Sokağı romanını diyalektik düşünme üzerinden okumak, kolektif Müslüman kimliğin bu ikilik çerçevesinde nasıl inşa edildiğini incelemek açısından dikkate değerdir. Çalışmada temellendirilen metinsel çözümlemelerle Huzur Sokağı romanının yalnızca bireylerin İslam’ı seçmesiyle yaşadıkları kişisel dönüşümü göstermek amacıyla kurgulanmadığına, aynı zamanda 1960’lı yıllarda modern Türkiye fotoğrafının dışında konumlandırılan İslami yaşayışın sosyolojisinin hangi karşıtlıklar üzerinden gösterilmek istendiğine dikkat çekilecektir.

Şule Yüksel Şenler's novel, Huzur Sokağı, considered one of the pioneering texts of the novel writing that began in the 1970s and centered on Islamic sensibilities, holds an important place in the literary representation of the Islamic identity conception offered in the face of identities excluded within Turkey's rapid modernization paradigm. This study aims to examine how the dialectical relationship between “inside” and “outside” as depicted in the novel Huzur Sokağı is constructed within the context of identity building, through which representations of space, society and mentality are employed and how these contrasts attempt to transcend each other. The reason the study is conducted through the lens of dialectical thinking is that dialectical critical thinking offers a liberating mode of thinking suitable for examining problems from multiple perspectives and aiming both to understand the contradictions in seemingly contradictory situations and to overcome them. In this context, Hegel's dialectical approach provides a suitable conceptual framework for the study. Reading Şule Yüksel Şenler’s novel Huzur Sokağı through the lens of dialectical thinking is noteworthy for examining how collective Muslim identity is constructed within this dualistic framework. The textual analyses presented in this study argue that Huzur Sokağı was not designed merely to depict the personal transformation of individuals who embrace Islam. Rather, the novel also seeks to foreground the binary oppositions through which the sociology of Islamic life, situated outside the dominant representation of modern Turkey in the 1960s, is constructed and made visible.
