(Scientific Research Publishing, 2021) Bulut, Sefa; Hajiyousouf, Ishaq Ibrahim; Nazir, Thseen; Bulut, Sefa; Nazir, Thseen; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık Bölümü
Depression is one of the most common yet a serious mental health condition that individuals have struggled with from the past to the present. It affects the functionality of a human being regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or even religion. The aim of this article is to discuss depression in general and its Islamic perspective in specific as research has shown that an Islamically oriented approach and intervention works better with the Muslim population in general. The paper also aims to have a broader view of how Islam classified depression classically and its modern implications upon psychotherapy which also lets us explore the differences, similarities and gaps between the Islamic and Western perspectives of depression at large. A collection of both classic and modern sources was used to extract information and provide a scope of definitions and clarify what depression means from an Islamic perspective. It was found that application and integration of Islamically oriented psychotherapy showed a faster recovery in the Muslim clients. Yet, further studies and research needs to be conducted in order to compare the effectiveness among the religious and non-religious Muslims and to fill the gap as to why the Muslim population tends to be hesitant in seeking help regarding their psychological problems.

(Science and Innovation Center Publishing House, 2020) Nazir, Thseen; Nazir, Thseen; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık Bölümü
During evolution, humans evolved with many potential skills, which made them unique than other living beings on the planet. One of the biggest achievements during this evolutionary process was the development of language and the capacity of communication. With the capacity of language, humans are able to share their thought with each other, following a proper medium, and channel in order to do so. This face-to-face communication between two or more individuals follows a specific medium and involves a specific structure, which influences the quality and understanding of a message. In the modern world, we have enhanced all aspects of the communication channel in order to decrease any mental distance among people. Technology has brought about many gadgets into existence, which are very effective in decreasing the physical distance in communication. These gadgets turned out to be very effective and served their purpose well. However, they started having a profound impact on our overall quality of communication and in turn affected our relations, as well as our selves. Nowadays one of the strongest intruding gadgets in our day-to-day life isthe smartphone. The use of smartphone during social gatherings, especially during one-to-one communication, has completely changed the way we view our social interactions. This current paper will try to understand face-to-face communication within the context of Phubbing and examine the profound impact of Phubbing on transmission and receiving of messages

International student’s enrolment in higher education in the Turkey has expanded considerably in the last decades with the help of Turkey Bursları Scholarship Program. The relevance of this work is determined by the real problems of foreign students’ adaptation to the educational environment of Turkish Universities. Every year more and more foreign students come to Turkey to get higher education, and every foreign student goes through an objective process of adaptation to University life. In this study, international students’ experiences were examined in academic and socio-cultural settings. Through qualitative interviews, the findings revealed that international students deal with academic challenges, social isolation, and cultural adjustment. Specifically, academic challenges included communication with professors, classmates, and staff. Consequently, they have to deal with social isolation when engaging in different group activities. Culturally, they need to confront the different ways of thinking and doing in the Turkey. In order to overcome these challenges, students have adopted some reasonable resources that mainly are derived from the universities and outside universities to overcome these challenges. Thus, as demonstrated in this study, having a better understanding of these students’ academic challenges, university faculty and staff can recognize students’ needs and effectively offer supportive campus resources and services. The university needs to be prepared to meet students not only academically but also socially and culturally. This study also suggests that some preparations need to be made by the university that will embrace international students upon their arrival.

Alcohol consumption can be a volatile pastime amongst people, especially among adolescents. Adolescent alcohol consumption is influenced by internal and external factors, of which the current study focuses on socio-demographic, family, and peer factors. The sample consists of 751 high school students from Istanbul, Turkey. The data on their drinking behaviors were collected by implementing a survey questionnaire. A chi-square test of independence and Multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted. The results revealed that variables like household income, parental marital status, mother's level of education and work status, family's alcohol use (mother, father, siblings), and peer alcohol usewere significantly associated with adolescent alcohol consumption. Furthermore, it was revealed that in the current sample being male, 18 years of age, and having educated mothers, mothers working as laborers, working or retired fathers, and alcohol using family members (father and siblings) predicted alcohol use. The menace of adolescents smoking is something that cannot be relegated to the background. The findings of this review attested to the fact that the prevalence of adolescents smoking is still on the rise especially in Europe and the Arab world. Though the onset of cigarette smoking differed from regions of the world, while most are initiated or start to use tobacco at 13 years, some are initiated into it indirectly as early as 6 years. Social workers, counselors, and health care specialists should be informed of the actual reasons leading to underage or early age smoking, which pinpoints to environmental, peers, and family influences, social media referencing and perceived unjustified benefits of tobacco. The symbolic escalation of smoking among adolescents and kids should be addressed with a well-designed national smoking prevention programs that involve schools and families.

(ORSAM, 2020) Nazir, Thseen; Bulut, Sefa; Thabassum, Liyana; Bulut, Sefa; Nazir, Thseen; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık Bölümü
Since time immemorial, the world has been shaped by various rules and codes of conduct. These rules, though varying with the demands of time, have been incorporated into human life to ensure harmony and prosperity. Of particular significance are the moral or ethical rules that have guided humanity along the path of goodness. Moral codes of conduct have always been tied to the idea of right and wrong, of goodness and evil, and are almost always introduced with religious or cultural undertones. While this may be the cause for differences in certain specific codes of conduct across different cultures and religions, nonetheless, there are also pieces of evidence pointing to a universal nature of moral and ethical values. There are some of these values that remain the same across cultures, and religions are causes for exploration. Therefore, the current paper seeks to explore the similarities in ethical or moral values and behavior found in religious scriptures, namely Futuwwat-nama and certain Hindu scriptures. Moreover, the paper briefly examines modern psychological theories to understand morality through religion. For this purpose, we have examined Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Sulami’s Futuwwat-nama, ‘The Book of Sufi Chivalry,’ and some Hindu scriptures, such as the ‘Rig Veda’, ‘Manu Smrithi’ and ‘Mahabharata’ to name a few. Three broad themes were identified and analyzed using various psychological theories.
