Eğitimden mesleğe geçişte mimarların habitusu

Abstract

Türkiye’de son yirmi yılda yükseköğretimin genişlemesiyle birçok profesyonel meslek giderek yükselen bir büyüme dalgasına sahne olmaktadır ve fakültede verilen eğitimle mesleğin gerektirdikleri arasında yeni köprüler kurulmaktadır. Bu bağlamda mimarlık mesleği öteden beri yüksek bir toplumsal statü ve itibara sahip olmakla birlikte kendi içinde giderek farklılaşan eğitim ve çalışma örüntülerine sahiptir. Bu araştırma mimarlık mesleği özelinde eğitimden mesleğe geçişin nasıl deneyimlendiğini; bu deneyimler temelinde meslekî yatkınlıkların fakülte yıllarından başlamak üzere nasıl şekillendiğini keşfetmeyi amaçlar. Nitel bir yönteme dayanan bu araştırmada farklı cinsiyet, yaş, kıdem ve çalışma durumlarından 16 mimarla derinlemesine mülakatlar yapılmış; yapılan mülakatlar gömülü teori yaklaşımına göre analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonucunda varılan bulgular mimarların habitusunu şekillendiren farklı boyutlara işaret eder: Mimarlık fakülteleri mezunlarına kazandırdıkları avantajlar anlamında kendi aralarında farklılaşmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, fakülte yıllarından mesleğe sarkacak şekilde mesleğin zahmetli, adanma gerektiren, rekabetçi, çok yönlü bir çalışma temposu vardır. Mimarların staj ve ofis deneyimleri de fakülteden mesleğe geçişteki boşluklara işaret eder. Nihayetinde mimarların habitusu diploma prestijiyle tasarım becerisi, yoğun çalışmayla yaratıcılık, sürekli gelişimle rutinleşme gibi gerilimler içerir.

With the expansion of higher education in Turkey in the last two decades, many professions are witnessing a rising wave of growth and new bridges are being built between the education given in faculties and the requirements of the profession. In this context, although the profession of architecture has long enjoyed a high social status and reputation, it has increasingly differentiated patterns of education and work. This research aims to explore how the transition from education to profession is experienced in the architectural profession and how professional predispositions are shaped on the basis of these experiences, starting from the faculty years. In this qualitative research, in-depth interviews were conducted with 16 architects of different gender, age, seniority and working status; the interviews were analysed according to the grounded theory approach. The findings of the analysis point to different dimensions that shape the habitus of architects: Architecture faculties differ among themselves in terms of the advantages they provide to their graduates. However, the profession has a laborious, demanding, competitive, multi-faceted work tempo, which extends from the faculty years to the profession. The internship and office experiences of architects also point to the gaps in the transition from faculty to profession. Ultimately, the habitus of architects includes tensions such as diploma prestige and design skills, hard work and creativity, continuous development and routinisation.
