Özet
The conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine has led to significant changes in the global energy market, affecting energy prices, trade flows, and policy priorities, particularly in Europe. European countries are reevaluating their dependence on Russian energy and diversifying their energy imports through alternative suppliers and investing in renewable energy sources to ensure long-term security and sustainability. This study, based on descriptive statistics from Bruegel’s aggregated trade data, highlights the changes in Russia’s trade patterns during the conflict, specifically its shift towards non-Western markets as a response to sanctions. Despite data limitations due to the lack of recent Russian statistics, the analysis provides insights into both the immediate and potential long-term effects of the conflict on energy dynamics. Overall, the conflict highlights the volatility of energy markets in the face of geopolitical uncertainty and emphasizes the significance of diversifying energy suppliers and renewable energy sources as an important alternative.
