dc.description.abstractA common notion among educators, and the public, is that a school is as good as its principal. With this perceived strong link between leadership and school quality comes the growing demand for professional principal preparation programs. The policies regulating these programs and their nature have been one of the mostly debated issues in Turkish national education system. This study takes a data-driven approach to evaluate current university-based principal preparation programs in educational leadership and administration through the lens of their alumni. This study follows qualitative case study analysis aiming at providing greater clarity and accuracy regarding the attributes and qualities of principal preparation programs and their effects on school leaders, teachers, and students. The results of this study contribute to data-driven policy making debates around professionalizing school leadership and defining quality in principal preparation programs in Turkey.
