    Creativity as a mediator between personal accomplishment and task performance: A multigroup analysis based on gender during the COVID-19 pandemic

    The current pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is not only a health crisis but also a social crisis that affects all people and all parts of society from various perspectives. Effective management of the emotional and psychosocial effects of the pandemic is a critical issue for individuals and societies. In this study, the mediating role of creativity on the relationship between personal accomplishment and task performance was examined during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a gender-based comparison analysis was performed to extend the analysis results. Survey-based research data were collected from 322 people working in different sectors. Partial least squares-based structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze research data. The results indicated that personal accomplishment had a significant positive effect on both creativity and task performance. Also, it was found that creativity had a mediating role in the relationship between personal accomplishment and task performance. Lastly, the gender-based multigroup analysis (MGA) revealed a significant difference between male and female participants with respect to the relationship between personal accomplishment and task performance, between creativity and task performance, between personal accomplishment and task performance through creativity.

    The impact of information system capabilities on firm performance: A serial multiple mediating model

    This study essentially investigates the effects of information system (IS) capabilities on firm performance. The combination of the resources and competencies that comprise IS capabilities is demonstrated using the resource-based view (RBV). A set of hypotheses is formulated to examine the impact of IS capabilities on decision-making performance and business process performance through the application of the serial multiple mediating model. Drawing on a sample of 204 firms in Turkey, the direct and indirect relationships among the study’s constructs are determined using structural equation modeling (SEM). The test results confirm the proposed serially mediating model. The study also demonstrates that multiple casual links are required for IS capabilities to have an impact on firm performance.

    Developing a hybrid analytics approach to measure the efficiency of deposit banks

    This study aims at analyzing the efficiency of deposit banks using contemporary analytics-based decision-making techniques within a fuzzy environment. Specifically, a hybrid analytic model drawing on a fuzzy analytical network process and data envelopment analysis was developed and applied to the assessment of Turkish deposit banks quoted on Borsa Istanbul. The findings revealed that; (i) the efficiency results for banking activity vary for competitiveness and for the adoption of new technologies before and after the financial recession; (ii) the majority of deposit banks operating primarily with non-interest based factors found to be less-efficient; (iii) the ownership and capital structure of banks do not significantly contribute to their banking performance, as they were technically inefficient during the same period; and (iv) the inputs of the banking activities could be reduced while a constant level of output is maintained by adopting and properly using the most efficient technology to boost the technical efficiency.

    Environmental practices and firm performance in emerging markets: The mediating role of product quality

    Environmental practices have not received as much research attention in emerging market contexts as traditional topics like quality. However, the importance of environmental practices for a firm’s production strategy has been increasing at an unprecedented level across the globe. Our research objective is, therefore, to investigate the interplay between environmental practices and quality in the pursuit of firm performance. Relying on 492 responses from Turkish manufacturers to test our hypotheses, we show that environmental practices directly improve the quality of products over and above the effect of quality management practices in emerging markets. Product quality, in turn, is important for increasing firm performance, acting as a mediator for the positive effects of environmental practices on performance. Thus, we reveal that product quality functions as an instrumental conduit between environmental practices and firm performance in emerging markets like Turkey where stakeholder pressures are weak, and regulations are often not properly enforced.

    Using machine learning tools for forecasting natural gas consumption in the province of Istanbul

    Commensurate with unprecedented increases in energy demand, awell-constructed forecastingmodel is vital to managing energy policies effectively by providing energy diversity and energy requirements that adapt to the dynamic structure of the country. In this study, we employ three alternative popular machine learning tools for rigorous projection of natural gas consumption in the province of Istanbul, Turkey's largest natural gas-consuming mega-city. These tools include multiple linear regression (MLR), an artificial neural network approach (ANN) and support vector regression (SVR). The results indicate that the SVR is much superior to ANN technique, providing more reliable and accurate results in terms of lower prediction errors for time series forecasting of natural gas consumption. This study could well serve a useful benchmarking study for many emerging countries due to the data structure, consumption frequency, and consumption behavior of consumers in various time-periods.

    Türkiye’deki işletmelerde bilişim sistemleri uygulamaları üzerine bir saha araştırması

    İşletmeler bilişim sistemlerini (BS) uzunca bir süre sabit kaynaklar olarak değerlendirmiştir. Bu yaklaşım yakın zamanda değişerek BS uygulamalarının değer yaratan bir ekosistem oluşturduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Genellikle araştırmalar işletmelerdeki BS uygulamalarının göreli kullanımları ile performans değerlendirmesi arasındaki ilişki üzerine yapılmaktadır. Firmaya özgü durumların - sahiplik örüntüsü, firma büyüklüğü, sektör, firma yaşı - ise literatürde değişmeyen unsurlar olarak görüldüğünden yeteri kadar üzerinde durulmadığı saptanmıştır. Bu yüzden, firmaya özgü bu olası durumlar temel unsurlar olarak kabul edilerek, Türkiye’de çeşitli sektörlerde faaliyet gösteren 204 firma ile saha araştırması yapılmıştır. Toplanan veriler t-testi ve ANOVA metodları ile analiz edilerek BS uygulamalarının göreli kullanımı ile firmaya özgü durumlar arasındaki etkileşim incelenmiştir. Araştırmamızın sonucunda, farklı BS uygulamalarının göreli kullanımının firmaya özgü olası durumlarda değişim gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda çalışmamız, BS uygulamalarının göreli kullanımı sonucunda oluşan firmaya özgü durumlardaki değişimin etkileri hakkında çıkarımlar yapmamıza katkı sağlamaktadır.

    Impact of work-to-family and family-to-work conflict among cabin crew members on turnover intentions

    The primary demand on frontline workers, which includes cabin crews and other airline workers, is the emotional demand, a workload that stems from work-to-family conflicts and family-to-work conflicts. The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship and impact of work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict experienced by cabin crew members of airline companies flying to MENA region on job stress and turnover intention, and testing the study hypotheses which reflect that employees experiencing high levels of WFC and FWC are likely to turnover. A purposive sampling from a population of English-speaking and a diverse range of years in the cabin crew profession was convenient to use a five-point Likert scale questionnaire designed with closed-ended questions enabling a sample of (154) male and female respondents' self-completion. The validity and reliability of the study questionnaire, which consisted of (16) items, were measured efficiently using the Pearson correlation coefficient and Cronbach's alpha for internal reliability. Collection of data done using Google form distributed using WhatsApp, e-mail, LinkedIn, and SMS. The questionnaire was constructed to assess 5 Factors (WFC, FWC, Job stress, and turnover intentions) and demographic characteristics such as gender, marital status, and number of children. Mean, and standard deviations are used for each of the items that represent each Factor. At the same time, Multiple linear regression analysis was used to test all the study hypotheses. The results of the study reveal that there is an effect of work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict on job-related stress. Moreover, there is an effect of job-related stress on turnover intentions. Finally, there is an effect of both work-to-family conflict and family-to-work conflict on turnover intentions, and all the effects are statistically significant at the level of significance (p<0.01).

    Bilişim teknolojileri kaynak ve kapasitelerinin kavramsallaştırılması üzerine sistematik bir literatür araştırması

    Bilişim Teknolojilerinin (BT) işletmelerde kullanılmaya başlanmasından itibaren iş dünyasındaki etki alanı önemli derecede artmıştır. Bugün, BT kullanmayan bir işletme ve herhangi bir BT bileşeninin katılımı olmadan bir ticari işlem tahayyül edilemez. Son yıllarda görülen teknoloji ve uygulama yetkinliklerindeki gelişmeler BT’ni kurumların temel taşlarından biri olarak görmemiz sonucunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. BT işletmelerdeki işlem ve süreçleri etkilemenin yanısıra kurumsal yapılanmada da esaslı değişikliklere neden olmaktadır. Bununla birlikte BT’nin işletmeler üzerindeki etkilerine yönelik çalışmalarda BT ve BT kapasitesinin (IT Capabilities) nasıl ölçülmesi gerektiğine dair bir birlik yoktur. Bu çalışma işletmelerde BT kapasitesinin nasıl ölçüleceğine dair kapsamlı bir literatür incelemesi sunmaktadır. Bu makalede BT’nin işletmelerde aktif olarak kullanılmaya başlamasından günümüze kadar geçen sürede BT kapasitesini ölçmek için hangi teorik altyapıların kullanıldığı ve hangi değişkenlerin ölçüm modeline dahil edildiği incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda BT kapasitesini ölçen değişkenlerin zaman içinde nasıl farklılaştığı, son dönemde hangi değişkenlerin ölçüm modellerine daha çok dahil edildiği ve bu değişkenlerin nasıl işlevsel hale getirildiği ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Böylece, işletmelerde BT ile ilgili derinlemesine kantitatif çalışmalar yapmak isteyen araştırmacılar için BT kaynak ve kapasitesinin ölçümü ile ilgili yol gösterici bir sonuç elde edilmiştir.

    A study on the impact of flight attendants' work-life conflict on organisational commitment and burnout

    The aviation industry's intensifying competition has led to higher job demands impacting cabin and cockpit crews adversely. This study aims to examine the relationship among work-life conflict, burnout, and organizational commitment in flight attendants. These professionals encounter diverse challenges like irregular hours and extended time away from home. Recognizing the impact of work-life conflict on their well-being and dedication is vital for personal and organizational success. Conducting an online survey using SPSS for analysis, the research delves into the association between work-life conflict, burnout, and organizational commitment. Results highlight a significant positive connection between work-life conflict and burnout among flight attendants. Individuals with lower work-life conflict experience less burnout, indicating the protective role of work-life balance against demanding schedules...

    Stock market response to natural disasters: Does corporate sustainability performance make difference?

    This study aims to examine the short-term price reactions of the stocks listed on Borsa Istanbul (BIST) after the severe earthquake of February 6, 2023, that happened in the southeastern region of Türkiye covering 11 provinces and causing more than 50,000 fatalities. Using a sample of 450 companies listed on the BIST All Index, this study estimates the abnormal returns (ARs) of stocks by employing an event study methodology. Using BIST 100 companies as a sub-sample, this study also explores whether sustainability performance creates resilience against downside risk after the earthquake. The results of the market model and the mean-adjusted model show that on the event day, most of the sectors had negative and significant ARs, while only the non-metal mineral products had positive and significant ARs. Most of the sectors continued to decline in the following 10 days except basic metal and non-metal mineral products sectors. The telecommunications sector was the most negatively affected sector in both models after the event day as it has underperformed in ensuring uninterrupted access to communication. The findings also indicate that firms in the financial sector that have higher sustainability performance are more resilient in responding to the disaster.
