Examining the determinants of consumer perception of inflation
(Springer Nature, 2025) Regasse, Ghita; Kaplan, Muhittin; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İktisat Bölümü
This study investigates the determinants of consumer inflation perception in 2023 using survey data from households in Morocco, Türkiye, and Italy. By integrating psychological variables such as media influence, peer influence, memory, and past inflation perceptions with socio-demographic factors (age, gender, education, professional status, and living standards), this paper offers a multidimensional view of how inflation is perceived. Using both multiple regression and ordered probit models, the analysis reveals common predictors-education, income level, inflation knowledge, and media exposure-while also identifying distinct country-specific patterns. In Türkiye, peer and media influence are dominant; in Morocco, consumer sentiment and memory play a stronger role; in Italy, media and memory are most influential. This study contributes to the literature by being among the first to systematically compare inflation perception determinants across countries using both socioeconomic and psychological variables. It demonstrates that inflation perception is not only an economic reaction but also a socially and cognitively embedded phenomenon, shaped by contextual and cultural differences. The findings offer important implications for inflation communication strategies: policymakers should tailor media messaging, financial education, and peer-led interventions to improve public understanding and trust in monetary policy.
Decoding Turkish Lira volatility using natural language processing, news and Twitter sentiment, and explainable AI
(Econjournals, 2025) Ibrahim, Mahat Maalim; Khan, Asad ul Islam; Kaplan, Muhittin; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İktisat Bölümü
This study examines the Turkish Lira/US Dollar exchange rate volatility from January 2015 through February 2024-a period when the Lira depreciated dramatically against the USD. This currency collapse triggered serious economic problems: High inflation, soaring import prices, reduced purchasing power, persistent price increases, lower real wages, higher external debt costs, limited monetary policy options, and volatile financial markets. While previous research has used Twitter sentiment for financial forecasting, our study contributes to the literature by analyzing both international news sources (The Economist, The New York Times, and The Guardian) and local Turkish sources (Yenisafak newspaper and social media Turkish Twitter content). Using explainable AI techniques, we investigate how news sentiment from different sources affects exchange rate volatility. The results indicate that international media sentiments impact the volatility of the Turkish lira/US dollar exchange rate. The overall sentiment derived from news sources effectively captures fluctuations in volatility. However, local media appears to have a comparatively weaker influence than international news.
Psychohygienic principles of professional training of specialists
(National University of Biological Resources and Nature Use of Ukraine, 2025) Boltivets, Sergii; Bulut, Sefa; Terentieva, N. O.; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık Bölümü
The methodological principles of psychohygienic knowledge in the field of professional self-realization of a specialist are highlighted. The projection of the development of individual psychological predispositions and abilities in their development as a humanistic perspective is presented as the methodological basis of psychohygiene of the individual in its professional ontogenesis. The main trends of psychophysiological support for the formation of a specialist over the past centuries are presented in confirmation of the methodological basis of psychohygiene, which consists not in the search and concentration on what is missing, but in clarifying the available mental and, in particular, personal capabilities of a person for their active development and implementation in the profession. Professional self-realization of a person is presented in the psychological mechanism of introjection, which consists in the natural self-determination and distinction of oneself as a subject of professional activity, the self-awareness of which actualizes the sphere of personal uniqueness (uniqueness).
Al-Ghazali’s principle of trust (Amanah) as a framework for ethical AI governance in organizations
(Springer, 2025) Serevan, Bahar
In a technology-driven, materialistic world, the need for timeless wisdom and spiritual-moral values becomes increasingly evident. This paper aims to provide a solid moral foundation for modern ethical frameworks of AI governance by drawing on the prominent Muslim theologian and philosopher, Al-Ghazali’s principle of Amanah in ethical leadership as a tool to establish trust in AI systems and technologies. The research is theoretical and qualitative, utilizing secondary data from journal articles and books. Through a literature review and analysis, the study explores the role of Al-Ghazali’s teachings in shaping ethical AI governance through ethical leadership. The findings reveal that incorporating Amanah, a core trait of ethical leadership from an Islamic perspective, into AI governance frameworks can effectively balance spiritual values with technological advancements. This approach offers a pathway to achieving business goals in a more humanistic, ethical, and sustainable manner. This theoretical paper has some limitations, primarily in lacking empirical evidence and focusing only on one principle of Al-Ghazali’s ethical legacy; therefore, a more comprehensive study would help to enrich the research with empirical evidence and practical implications.
Right to be rescued and non-refoulement of refugees at sea
(Yeditepe Üniversitesi, 2025) Nasrat, Qaisar; Hukuk Fakültesi, Hukuk Bölümü
Today, asylum and migration are increasing more than ever. Some of this asylum is carried out by sea. In addition to the easy accessibility of sea travel, we are witnessing the tragic sinking of boats and the increase in victims. Therefore, thousands of refugees lose their lives while crossing the seas every year and today it has become a global problem. In this context, the international community must take urgent measures regarding the tragedies of refugee victims. While rescue persons at sea and consequently the right to life are protected by many international documents, the right to life of refugees is no different. This study examines the problems experienced by refugees at sea, the responsibilities of the target state and coastal states, international documents on the subject and the human rights of refugees. It also addresses the issue of protecting human rights, especially the right to life at sea. As a result of the study, the strict policies of the coastal state and target states to prevent refugees from entering their countries cause refugees to face major risks at sea. Therefore, states must act in accordance with international human rights and law of the sea in order to protect refugees.
