Yayın Adolescent smoking: The causes, the onset, the prevalence and the associated risk factors(Chembio Publisher, 2020) Bulut, Sefa; Nazir, Thseen; Usman, Ali Cissey; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüThe menace of adolescents smoking is something that cannot be relegated to the background. The findings of this review attested to the fact that the prevalence of adolescents smoking is still on the rise especially in Europe and the Arab world. Though the onset of cigarette smoking differed from regions of the world, while most are initiated or start to use tobacco at 13 years, some are initiated into it indirectly as early as 6 years. Social workers, counselors, and health care specialists should be informed of the actual reasons leading to underage or early age smoking, which pinpoints to environmental, peers, and family influences, social media referencing and perceived unjustified benefits of tobacco. The symbolic escalation of smoking among adolescents and kids should be addressed with a well-designed national smoking prevention programs that involve schools and families.Yayın Adolescents alcohol consumption, prevalence and trends(E-Cronicon, 2020) Usman, Ali Cissey; Gençer, Ali Görkem; Bulut, Sefa; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüThere is this false popular belief that alcohol dependence is most common in one’s 40s, In fact, alcohol dependence is most common in young adulthood and has its origins goes back to adolescence. Alcohol use at the end of adolescence can be a detrimental factor in its use in young adulthood. The issue of continuity of alcohol use is also associated with the personality characteristics of the individuals, their individual characteristics and the environmental factors affecting them. It will be useful to identify and investigate the factors affecting individuals’ high levels of alcohol use. Therefore, continuity of alcohol use lays the foundation of prevention programs for alcohol use in adolescence. Reducing alcohol use will also lead to secondary gains such as the prevention of accidents, injuries, and criminal behavior.Yayın Altruism in positive psychology(Global Books Organisation, 2022) Usman, Ali Cissey; Bulut, Sefa; Bulut, Sefa; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüMother Teresa once shared, “We can do no great things on this earth, only small things with great love.” These small things can be any small acts of kindness and compassion, like stopping by to say hello to an elderly, letting someone pass you in traffic, giving simple gifts, helping a colleague at work, or the vulnerable to fight for their rights despite your being busy...Yayın An examination of risk factors that predict adolescent smoking in Turkey(İbn Haldun Üniversitesi, Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, 2021) Usman, Ali Cissey; Bulut, SefaSigara içen yetişkinlerin çoğu ergenlik döneminde başlamıştır, bu yaşta başlayanlar ise sigarayı bırakmakta daha fazla sorun yaşamaya eğilimlidir. Yayın An investigation of family factors that predict smoking among high school adolescents(Taylor & Francis, 2022) Bulut, Sefa; Usman, Ali Cissey; Kaplan, Mehmet; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüBackground: In the last few decades, numerous studies and review papers have examined a wide range of potential risk factors in an attempt to understand adolescent smoking. In the majority of those studies, family is often regarded as an important element in the life of an adolescent.Method: The authors investigated whether family factors such as child–parent relationship and parental educational level are predictors of adolescent smoking status in three school types using archival data. Both Spearman correlation and Chi-square test of independence were used to examine the relationships. Results: In viewing all the school types as one, the result showed that at (rho = .148, n = 751, p < 0.05), a significant positive relationship existed between child-father relationship and adolescent smoking but not with child–mother relationship. However, in controlling for school types, the Chi-square test of independence revealed (Imam Hatip high school (X2(8) = 7.121, p > 0.05), Anadolu high school (X2(8) = 12.423, p > 0.05) and Vocational high school (X2(8) = 17.744, p < 0.05) a relationship between child–mother relationship and adolescent in Vocational high school. As to whether the influence of child–father relationship on adolescent smoking differed in terms of school types, result suggested a relationship existed in all the three school types (Imam Hatip high school (X2(8) = 30.965, p < 0.05), Anadolu high school (X2(8) = 21.241, p < 0.05), and Vocational high school (X2(8) = 30.804, p < 0.05).Yayın Approaches to qualitative research: A narrative literature review(International Network for the Advancement of Medicine, Psychology and Public Health, 2024) Usman, Ali Cissey; al-Hendawi, Maha; Bulut, Sefa; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüIntroduction: Qualitative research, distinct from its quantitative counterpart, delves into the complexities of human behavior, lifestyles, and social interactions through the interpretation and contextualization of participants' spoken words and experiences. Fakat diğerleri görmezden gelinerek, çiğnenerek başarı elde edildiği zaman, başarıya ulaşan kişi nadiren gerçek mutluluk ya da bir sevgi ve tamamlanma hissi yaşar…Yayın Psychobiography: Understanding concepts, steps, and procedures in the study of lives(PPC, 2021) Bulut, Sefa; Usman, Ali Cissey; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüPsychobiography: Understanding concepts, steps, and procedures in the study of lives The process of applying psychological theories to examine the biographical and autobiographical data of famous individuals is what is termed “psychobiography”. Since its inception in the early sixteenth century, this qualitative type of research method has had a fairly storied history in the Western world. This study provides a clear picture of psychobiographical research by defining terms and phrases that are used in relation to psychobiographical research. It also covered its historical antecedent and steps and procedures that are necessary for undertaking psychobiographical research. The steps presented here stemmed from a broad phase in qualitative research and analysis. In practice, however, psychobiographies do not always adhere to systematic formats, but some key decisions and guidelines must be followed in order to ensure the trustworthiness of the study’s findings. Thus, the research mainly aims at introducing psychobiography, and life history research to the reader.Yayın Stalking of healthcare professionals by their clients: The prevalence, motivation, and effect(Scientific Research Publishing, 2021) Bulut, Sefa; Nazir, Thseen; Bulut, Sefa; Nazir, Thseen; Bulut, Sefa; Usman, Ali Cissey; Nazir, Thseen; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık Bölümü; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüIt is proposed that healthcare professionals are prone to be stalked by their patients, but many feel ashamed to talk about it, believing that they might have done something to warrant the stalking. We undertook a rigorous review of the literature with the primitive goal of highlighting noteworthy issues on the stalking of healthcare professionals and psychologists by their patients. Databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar were searched to collate articles and studies on the topic with the keywords “stalker, stalking, assaults, aggression, and physicians”. From the review, the prevalence rate of stalking healthcare professionals ranged between 6% - 53%. This huge variation was largely due to the inconsistencies in the definition of what constituted stalking. The common motives of stalkers were largely due to erotomania or misguided expectation and a sense of resentment due to service dissatisfaction. Finally, it was apparently right to conclude that, medical doctors or healthcare professionals are at risk of being stalked on the grounds of service dissatisfaction, and mismanagement of treatment processes resulting in physical or perceived client injuries. Whereas psychologists and other psychiatrists are more prone to be stalked due to erotomaniac reasons.Yayın Understanding theories in qualitative research(SCIAEON, 2021) Bulut, Sefa; Usman, Ali Cissey; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık BölümüThe purpose of this research is to give readers a unique understanding of qualitative research by sketching out its historical background, theoretical underpinnings, and methods of data collection. From this study, qualitative research is deployed in several disciplines, such as behavioural and social science, to better understand human experiences, cultures, beliefs, and values. In its broad terms, it can also be thought of as a research approach that has its theoretical roots in sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and linguistics. This type of research is ideal for delving into complex phenomena that are difficult to quantify with numerical numbers and statistics, despite its trustworthiness being a concern for some readers. It therefore can be time-consuming compared to quantitative research because chains of data are generated in qualitative research that requires hours of analytical processes that cannot be performed by a software program.
