Children’s perception of death and grief

Death is a universal phenomenon. It is well-documented that the acceptance of the existence of death, making sense of death, and getting prepared or being ready for death is hard. This is particularly relevant to children as they may not have developed personal qualities such as abstractive thinking. They may not perceive what death means and know how to handle the loss of their loved ones. Children’s perceptions of death, loss, and grief may be affected by a multitude of factors (e.g., gender, culture, personal relationships). One of the most important factors appears to be the level of cognitive maturity in the perception and acceptance of death, loss, and grief among children. Children need support from their parents, caregivers, or loved ones to understand what death means, to accept the death phenomenon, and to deal with the consequences of one’s death in accordance with their cognitive abilities. The present article aims to explore how children perceive death and grieve, and to offer practical implications by analyzing their developmental levels.
Academic cheating with generative AI in higher education: An extended model of the theory of planned behavior with motivational antecedents

This study proposed and tested an extended model of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to understand the determinants of academic cheating using generative AI (GenAI). This model integrates intrinsic and extrinsic motivation as antecedents of the core constructs of TPB, namely attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, to predict cheating intentions and behavior. Quantitative data were collected from 243 undergraduate students in West Java through a survey and analyzed using confirmatory partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The model demonstrated satisfactory global fit (SRMR = .045; NFI = .92), supporting the hypothesized structure. The results indicate that the proposed model can explain significant variance in cheating intentions and behavior. Perceived behavioral control proved to be the strongest predictor of cheating intentions. More importantly, both behavioral intention and perceived behavioral control directly and strongly predicted self-reported academic cheating behavior. This study concluded that the extended TPB is a robust framework for this phenomenon, highlighting the dominant role of perceived behavioral control. Its practical implications emphasize the need for institutional interventions focused on reducing the perceived ease and increasing the perceived risk of GenAI misuse to maintain academic integrity.

Adalet Bakanlığı Arabuluculuk Daire Başkanlığı ile TÜBİTAK’ın katkılarıyla, İbn Haldun Üniversitesi Uyuşmazlık Çözümü Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi (UÇAM) ve İbn Haldun Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi tarafından düzenlenen Arabuluculuğun Geleceği III Sempozyumu, TÜBİTAK 2223-B Yurt İçi Bilimsel Etkinlik Düzenleme Desteği Programı kapsamında, 17-19 Nisan 2026 tarihlerinde İstanbul’da İbn Haldun Üniversitesi külliyesinde yüz yüze ve çevrim içi oturumlarla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Türkçe ve İngilizce gerçekleştirilen sempozyumda; aile arabuluculuğundan ticari uyuşmazlıklara, iş hukukundan uluslararası arabuluculuğa, yapay zekânın uyuşmazlık çözümüne etkisinden Med-Arb modeline kadar uzanan geniş bir konu yelpazesinde özgün çalışmalar sunulmuştur. Üç gün süren programda, farklı üniversiteler ve kurumlardan elliden fazla akademisyen ve uygulamacı, on beş oturumda arabuluculuğun güncel meselelerini çok yönlü biçimde ele almış, tartışmış ve gelecek perspektifi çizmiştir.
Bu kitapta yer alan bildiriler, alanın dönüşen dinamiklerini anlamak ve geleceğine dair sağlam bir perspektif geliştirmek isteyen araştırmacılar ve uygulayıcılar için kapsamlı bir kaynak sunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Kör hakemlik sürecinden geçen elli bir bildirinin Türkçe ve İngilizce özetlerini içeren bu eser, arabuluculuğun kuramsal derinliği ile uygulamadaki karşılıklarını buluşturarak literatüre önemli bir katkı sağlamaktadır.
Türk medeni kanunu çerçevesinde mazbut vakıflar: (Örnek mazbut vakıf incelemeli)

Vakıflar, hem Osmanlı döneminde hem de Cumhuriyet döneminde Medeni Hukuk çerçevesinde ele alınan önemli toplumsal kurumlardır. Hukuk tarihimiz açısından 1926 tarihinde 743 sayılı Türk Kanunu Medenisi'nin yürürlüğe girmesiyle birlikte vakıf sistemimizde, eski-yeni vakıf şeklinde bir ayrım ortaya çıkmış, bu Kanun öncesi kurulan vakıflar "eski vakıf" olarak isimlendirilmiştir. Buna göre eski vakıflar içerisindeki en büyük grubu teşkil eden mazbut vakıflar, Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü tarafından yönetilmektedir. Bu çalışmada; Osmanlı döneminde kurulan ve varlığını hala devam ettiren mazbut vakıfların tarihsel gelişimi, temsili, tüzel kişilikleri, malvarlığı yönetimi gibi temel konular güncel mevzuat hükümleri çerçevesinde ele alınmaktadır. Ayrıca kitapta; 1800'lü yılların ortalarında kurulan bir mazbut vakıf olan Bezm-i Alem Vakfı incelenmekte, bu mazbut vakfın kuruculuğunu yaptığı Bezm-i Alem Vakıf Hastanesi ve Bezm-i Alem Vakıf Üniversitesi'ne ilişkin tarihsel ve hukuksal süreçler irdelenmektedir. Böylece mazbut vakıfların güncel hukuki statüleri, hem teorik hem pratik olarak okuyucunun dikkatine sunulmaktadır.
Hopes in transition: An ethnography of African migrants in Istanbul

Hopes in Transition offers an incisive ethnographic exploration of sub-Saharan African migrants navigating life in contemporary Istanbul. Grounded in rich, qualitative research, this book interrogates the political and economic conditions that compel transnational mobility, while centering the voices and lived experiences of those who have embarked on migration as an act of survival and self-determination. Challenging reductionist framings of migration as crisis or threat, the author theorizes migration as a profoundly human response to structural violence, economic disenfranchisement, and geopolitical instability. The work situates African migrants not as peripheral actors or passive recipients of global processes, but as agents actively engaging with—and reshaping—the socio-spatial landscapes of Istanbul. This ethnography invites critical reflection on the entanglements of race, borders, belonging, and precarity in a globalized world. It underscores the universality of migratory experience, positioning the migrant not as the “other,” but as a figure that reveals broader truths about the human condition under late capitalism and postcolonial modernity. A significant contribution to migration studies, urban anthropology, and African diaspora scholarship, Hopes in Transition expands the theoretical and geographic boundaries of contemporary ethnographic inquiry.
