Al-Ghazali’s principle of trust (Amanah) as a framework for ethical AI governance in organizations
(Springer, 2025) Serevan, Bahar
In a technology-driven, materialistic world, the need for timeless wisdom and spiritual-moral values becomes increasingly evident. This paper aims to provide a solid moral foundation for modern ethical frameworks of AI governance by drawing on the prominent Muslim theologian and philosopher, Al-Ghazali’s principle of Amanah in ethical leadership as a tool to establish trust in AI systems and technologies. The research is theoretical and qualitative, utilizing secondary data from journal articles and books. Through a literature review and analysis, the study explores the role of Al-Ghazali’s teachings in shaping ethical AI governance through ethical leadership. The findings reveal that incorporating Amanah, a core trait of ethical leadership from an Islamic perspective, into AI governance frameworks can effectively balance spiritual values with technological advancements. This approach offers a pathway to achieving business goals in a more humanistic, ethical, and sustainable manner. This theoretical paper has some limitations, primarily in lacking empirical evidence and focusing only on one principle of Al-Ghazali’s ethical legacy; therefore, a more comprehensive study would help to enrich the research with empirical evidence and practical implications.

Right to be rescued and non-refoulement of refugees at sea
(Yeditepe Üniversitesi, 2025) Nasrat, Qaisar; Hukuk Fakültesi, Hukuk Bölümü
Today, asylum and migration are increasing more than ever. Some of this asylum is carried out by sea. In addition to the easy accessibility of sea travel, we are witnessing the tragic sinking of boats and the increase in victims. Therefore, thousands of refugees lose their lives while crossing the seas every year and today it has become a global problem. In this context, the international community must take urgent measures regarding the tragedies of refugee victims. While rescue persons at sea and consequently the right to life are protected by many international documents, the right to life of refugees is no different. This study examines the problems experienced by refugees at sea, the responsibilities of the target state and coastal states, international documents on the subject and the human rights of refugees. It also addresses the issue of protecting human rights, especially the right to life at sea. As a result of the study, the strict policies of the coastal state and target states to prevent refugees from entering their countries cause refugees to face major risks at sea. Therefore, states must act in accordance with international human rights and law of the sea in order to protect refugees.

Enhancing circular economy project outcomes via molecular fuzzy-based decision support system
(Ain Shams University, 2025) Kou, Gang; Yüksel, Serhat; Dinçer, Hasan; Eti, Serkan; Olaru, Gabriela Oana; Hacıoğlu, Ümit; Yönetim Bilimleri Fakültesi, İşletme Bölümü
The most important criteria for increasing the performance of circular economy projects should be identified. Otherwise, companies can make wrong investment decisions that lead to high operational costs. However, the number of studies in which priority analysis is carried out for these factors is not sufficient. This situation creates an essential research gap for this literature. To address this missing gap, this study aims to identify the most critical factors and develop the most effective investment strategies to enhance the performance of circular economy projects. A novel decision-making model is proposed by integrating the Q-learning algorithm, molecular fuzzy sets, cognitive maps, and the Molecular ranking (MORAN) technique. To ensure robustness, a balanced expert dataset is constructed using the Q-learning algorithm, while molecular geometry is considered to reduce complexity and uncertainty in decision-making processes. It is concluded that effective waste management and achieving energy efficiency are the most important indicators. This study contributes to the literature by presenting a novel integrated model that not only enhances decision accuracy but also offers practical strategic guidance for investors seeking to boost the success of circular economy initiatives. The proposed model demonstrates a significant improvement in prioritization accuracy compared to traditional fuzzy decision-making approaches.

Attachment, maternal childhood trauma, and risk of autism in offspring
(Pera Yayıncılık Hizmetleri, 2025) Derin, Songül; Yapıcı, Nihan; Selman Adıyaman, Saliha Büşra; İnsan ve Toplum Bilimleri Fakültesi, Psikoloji Bölümü
Objective: Maternal childhood trauma and insecure attachment styles have each been implicated in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children, yet their combined influence is not well understood. This study examined associations between these maternal factors and ASD status in children. Methods: Thirty-two ASD dyads and thirty typically developing control dyads, children aged 0-5 years (91% male; M = 3.02 years, SD = 1.31), were enrolled. Mothers completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) and Relationship Scales Questionnaire (RSQ); children were assessed with the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS). Between-group differences were investigated, and a binary logistic regression adjusting for CTQ total score, socioeconomic status, child age, and birth weight was performed to assess the association of maternal factors with ASD status. Results: Although the ASD group mothers reported slightly higher trauma scores, particularly in emotional abuse, these differences were not statistically significant. However, they showed significantly elevated preoccupied and dismissing attachment styles and lower secure attachment compared to the control group. In a binary logistic regression model, preoccupied attachment emerged as a robust predictor of ASD status (B = 1.87, p = 0.023; OR = 6.48), even when controlling for maternal childhood trauma, socioeconomic status, child age, and birth weight. Other attachment styles and the total maternal childhood trauma score did not reach significance. Conclusion: These findings suggest that mothers of children with ASD are likely to display preoccupied attachment styles, underscoring the importance of addressing maternal attachment issues in early interventions.

Bridging the gaps: Exploring AI-driven emotional, academic, and social support for international students
(Taylor & Francis, 2025) Nazir, Thseen; Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık Bölümü
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into the academic and social lives of internationalstudents has opened new pathways for support during their transitions. This qualitative studyexplores the multifaceted role of AI-driven platforms in addressing the emotional, academic, andsocial challenges faced by international students in Turkey. Thematic analysis of semi-structuredinterviews with 30 participants revealed four overarching themes: emotional support, academicfacilitation, social integration, and Ethical Concerns, each accompanied by unique sub-themes. AItools such as ChatGPT, Replika, and Duolingo provided emotional relief during isolation, simplifiedcomplex academic concepts, enhanced language proficiency, and boosted communication confi-dence in social contexts. However, participants also expressed concerns about over-reliance anddata privacy, highlighting ethical considerations in the adoption of AI tools. These findings under-score the potential of AI to complement traditional support systems and provides valuableinsights for educators, policymakers, and developers aiming to leverage AI in enhancing the expe-riences of international students
