The effects of digitalization on journalism: Changes and transformations in Turkish sports journalism
(Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli Üniversitesi, 2025) Yılmaz, Özgür
This study explores the transformative impact of digitalisation on sports journalism, with a specific focus on Turkish media. Historically, sports journalism evolved through traditional platforms such as newspapers, radio, and television, each shaping how sports were consumed and perceived. The advent of digital platforms has revolutionized this landscape, offering interactive and audience-centered experiences while challenging conventional norms and ethics. In Türkiye, digital platforms like YouTube and social media have become essential outlets for sports content, integrating real-time updates, fan-driven narratives, and personalized consumption. Text mining and content analysis were employed to examine the practices of prominent Turkish sports journalists and their interactions with audiences. The findings reveal that digitalisation has enhanced accessibility and engagement but also has amplified issues such as sensationalism, misinformation, and a narrow focus on football. The study highlights the hybrid nature of Turkish sports journalism, where traditional practices coexist with digital innovations. While digitalisation presents opportunities for inclusiveness and innovation, it also necessitates addressing persistent ethical and structural challenges. This research contributes to understanding the evolving dynamics of sports journalism in the digital age, emphasizing the need for a balance between technological advancements and professional integrity.

Munāẓara and Islamic traditions of argument
(Routledge, 2025) Oruç, Rahmi; İnsan ve Toplum Bilimleri Fakültesi, Karşılaştırmalı Edebiyat Bölümü
It has become a trope to start the study of argument in Ancient Greece and lament its falling prey to formal logic over the centuries. While relatively true in the Western context, this view neglects Munāẓara and Islamic traditions of argument. This chapter offers a historical sketch of Islamic argumentation and introduces Munāẓara, the tradition's latest emergent discipline. Munāẓara can mean an argumentation theory, a type of inquiry between disagreeing parties for the manifestation of truth, and an actual debate. The chapter highlights Munāẓara's differences from contemporary argumentation theories and shows how Walton and Krabbe's classification of dialogue types fails to capture its intricacies.

The role of cognitive dissonance in the dilemma of abandoning or reconstructing faith
(Giresun Üniversitesi, 2025) Tezcan, Ali Osman; Armağan Boğatekin, Merve
This study aims to examine the role of cognitive dissonance in the process of religious conversion and its effect on individuals' faith commitments. As a method, 30 fundamental studies published in the literature of religious psychology and sociology between 1954 and 2021 were examined using thematic analysis. The findings of the research show that cognitive dissonance arises particularly in three main situations: conflicts between religious teachings and life experiences, inconsistencies among religious leaders, and the conflict between religion and science. It was found that individuals follow two different strategies to alleviate this psychological distress: Some individuals abandon their beliefs to resolve the dissonance and construct a secular identity, while others cling more tightly to their beliefs and use this process as a motivational tool to strengthen their faith. Furthermore, the study emphasizes that the cultural structure and social dynamics in which the individual lives are factors that influence how this conflict is resolved. It highlights that the process of abandoning one's faith can potentially create a sense of freedom in the individual, but it can also bring emotional burdens such as social isolation and alienation. Consequently, cognitive dissonance is not only a factor that causes people to stray from religion, but also a dynamic mechanism that plays a key role in the restructuring of belief systems.
